|DWTS says good-bye to groundbreaking Chaz Bono.|
Bono never fooled anyone into thinking that dancing had a future in his life. He often complained that this was like being a professional athlete and he was not in that kind of shape. Lacey Schwimmer, his partner, did the best she could guiding his rotund frame around the dance floor. Bono had a point when he said that judge Bruno Tonioli was getting annoying with his "Ewok" and "cutie little penguin" remarks. "How come heavy-set women can dance around and he doesn't make those kinds of remarks about them?"
Bono did break ground, being the first transgender person to ever compete on Dancing With The Stars. He said, "It's been such an honor. I wish there was a person like me on television when I was growing up. Life would have been so much easier."
Even though he was at or next to the bottom of the leader board throughout the competition, fan voting kept him dancing, while other much more skilled dancers were eliminated. That shows the power of Cher's fame and the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) community.
For six weeks, he was the underdog hero. And he did relatively well. Although, at times he seemed to be walking more than dancing. Anyone who goes on DWTS has to have a lot of courage. I'd have died the first practice session.
Along with Bono and Schwimmer in jeopardy at the end of the show were Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - although, this does not mean they had the second lowest point total - they are flirting with the bottom of the leader board and Maksim feels it is unfair that the judges have been so critical of Solo. It's been hard for a tough athlete like her to find her femininity on the dance floor.
