Dancing With The Stars 2011 | Week 9 Puts Chelsea Kane Way In The Lead

Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas take a big lead.
Dancing With The Stars 2011 Week 9 was an endurance test, as all four teams had to perform three dances, including three costume changes. At the end of the evening Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas took a giant lead and set themselves up to be the least likely to be eliminated on Tuesday.

Before I give you the details of the dancing, I've noticed a bit of a trend the last two weeks regarding the costumes of the female dancers. It must be sweeps week because DWTS Week 8 could have been called "Cleavage Week" - busts were bubbling out of the costumes throughout the night.

This week could have been called "Skin Week" - flashing more flesh and the skimpiest, sexiest costumes of the entire DWTS season. Maybe this is like porno for the senior set, but the ladies were sexy and smoking all night long.

Now, to the dancing. Each couple had to perform two dances, for which they would be scored in the normal fashion. Scores from each dance would be combined. Then, a Dancing With The Stars first was a "Winner Takes All Cha-Cha" at the end of the night worth 15 points to the winner.

Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff danced first in each of the regular dances. Their first dance was an Argentine Tango that earned them 25 points. The other couples danced and then Macchio and Smirnoff returned. For their second dance, they lit up the floor with a hot Salsa, but it failed to impress the judges and they earned a 23 for a combined score of 48.

Dancing second in each round were Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Their first dance was a Viennese Waltz that earned them 9's from all of the judges for a total of 27. Kirstie and Maks danced a Paso Doble for their second dance and duplicated their first score - 9's across the board, for a total of 54.

Third on the dance floor were Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas. They were awarded a 10 and 2 - 9's for their Argentine Tango. For their second dance, they danced a romantic and seductive Rumba that earned them a perfect 10, 10, 10, for 30 points and a combined total of 58.

There was nearly a horrible accident this week during rehearsals for Hines Ward and Kym Johnson. While attempting a move where Johnson was to swing beneath Ward, he fell and bent her neck so severely that she had to be taken away in a neck brace by an ambulance. She recovered quickly, but they lost an entire day of practice before tonight's competition.

Hines and Kym danced a sultry Argentine Tango. It was sheer beauty to watch. At the end of the dance, tough-guy football player Hines Ward broke into tears. Kym Johnson was overcome by emotion, too; and Carrie Anne Inaba teared up as she gave her review of their performance.

Hines was just so grateful that Kym was not seriously hurt, but she still has to be careful as they move toward the finals. All of the grace and emotion earned them a perfect 30 from the judges.

With less emotion, their second dance was a sassy salsa and they rang the bell again, scoring a perfect 30, for a combined score of 60.

During the last half hour of Dancing With The Stars, the couples would pair off and dance against each other in the "Winner Takes All Cha-Cha". The last place team would dance against the first place team. This pitted Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff against Hines Ward and Kym Johnson. Ward and Johnson beat Macchio and Smirnoff and advanced to the Instant Cha-Cha, for which they would have about 3 to 5 minutes to prepare.

In the next face-off, Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas danced first, followed by Kirstie and Maks. Chelsea and Mark came out the winners.

This put the 15 bonus points in the "Winner Takes All Instant Cha-Cha" up for grabs between Hines and Kym and Chelsea and Mark. Ward was smooth, but Kane sizzled and she was awarded the 15 points, which gave her and Mark a grand total of 73 for the night.

Looking at the leader board, Kane had 73, Ward 60, Kirstie 54 and Macchio way down at 48. This looks like Ralph's last night on Dancing With The Stars, unless some wild anomaly occurs with fan voting. Karina Smirnoff is as popular, if not more popular than Ralph Macchio, and her sex appeal may keep him in the running. It won't be the first time we've seen some strange results on Dancing With The Stars.

Dancing With The Stars 2011 Week 9 Performances put Chelsea Kane way in the lead, and making her the one to beat as the finals approach next Monday.
