Ohio State Mascot Attacked

At Saturday's Ohio State, Ohio University football game, the fans got to see something they've probably never seen before. The mascot for the Ohio University Bobcats attacked and tackled Brutus the Ohio State Buckeye mascot.

Brandon Hanning, 19, who wears the Bobcat costume isn't even a student at Ohio University anymore. He attends nearby Hocking College. He's been banned from collegiate events.

Check out the video.

Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez Are New American Idol Judges

It was announced today that Steven Tyler of Aerosmith fame and actress/singer Jennifer Lopez will be the new judges on American Idol. They replace the departing Simon Cowell and Ellen Degeneres.

Regardless of who the new judges are on American Idol, it still remains to be seen if the void left by Simon Cowell can ever be filled. Ratings for the Idol have been slipping the last few years. Maybe the show has seen its best days and swapping judges won't do much to stem the down slide.

Ellen left because judging young, hopeful stars did not mesh with her personality. She just didn't have it in her to be brutally honest, or in some cases, cruel.

Judging with brutal honesty and at times downright cruelty was Simon Cowell's forte. People tuned in to see him crush the hopes and dreams of the neophyte stars. People watched Simon for the same reason people watch NASCAR or hockey. They didn't care about the winner, they wanted to see a crash or a fight - or in Simon's case - him dashing the dreams of an aspiring star.

Randy Jackson will be the only remaining mainstay at the judges table. Only time will tell if the other two newbie judges will provide the critical eyes and ears that are the trademark of American Idol.

Who Will Win "Dancing With The Stars 2010"?

"Dancing With The Stars" kicks off its 11th season tonight at 8 PM on ABC. Before the dancing starts, I wanted to pose the question, "Who Will Win "Dancing With The Stars 2010"?

This season gives us a very diverse cast - athletes, actors and actresses, a comediene, a couple singers and a daughter of a former Alaska governor. The cast list is as follows:

Audrina Patridge, Margaret Cho, Rick Fox, Bristol Palin, Kyle Massey, Jennifer Grey, Brandy, Kurt Warner, Michael Bolton, Florence Henderson, David Hasselhoff, and The Situation.

Historically, athletes and stage entertainers, like singers, tend to have the edge. If you don't know everyone on the list, neither do I. But over the next 13-weeks, we will get to know them and vote for them.

I'm taking the Las Vegas approach to this and looking for the pre-season favorite. So, I need your feedback. Place your votes below for Who Will Win "Dancing With The Stars 2010?"

Cha-cha-cha.

What Is "THE EVENT"? And Will You Have The Patience To Find Out?

After an entire summer of promo bombardments, NBC premieres "THE EVENT" this evening in a two-hour TV show special. All summer the question was asked, "What is THE EVENT?" The big question is "Will you have the patience to find out?"

Last week, Jason Ritter, son of the late John Ritter and one of the stars on THE EVENT, was a guest on both the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. From the interviews, I have a slightly better idea what to expect, but I'm still not any closer to finding out "What is THE EVENT?"

"THE EVENT" is a made for television show produced by the producer of "24". I've heard that if you liked "24" and "Lost", then you will probably love "THE EVENT". The show is a series of complicated plots and sub-plots that span a five year period. All of the episodes have been written and NBC has committed to the project for five years.

Everything is top secret regarding the story lines and especially what THE EVENT is. Jason Ritter said that they have filmed eight episodes and he still has no clue what THE EVENT is. Only a handful of key cast members know what THE EVENT is. Will the public have the patience to wait and find out the answer to "What is THE EVENT?"

So, 65 episodes are written and scheduled to unfold. That looks like 64 cliffhangers in the making, if my math is correct. (Five seasons, times 13 episodes, should equal 65.)

Quite frankly, I never saw "24" and only sat befuddled through two episodes of "Lost". Yes, I was "lost" the entire time. What the hell was that? Giving me more of the same didn't sound too appealing. I have plenty of mysteries in my real life that I am earnestly trying to solve without adding a made for TV show conundrum that will perplex me for five years. I have no plans to watch "THE EVENT", since I've already been told there won't be any resolution at the end of the two-hour premiere.

The most I can take of cliff hangers are 13-week seasons of shows like "The Apprentice", "The Bachelorette", or "America's Got Talent". Don't make me watch it for five years to find out what it was all about!

For those of you that like mystery, intrigue and being confused for long periods of time, at 8 PM on NBC you can tune in for the premiere and begin asking yourself, "What is THE EVENT?"

Good luck.

Ohioans Most Interested in "Using A Vibrator"

OHow and why I find these things I'm not quite sure, but when I stumbled on this data, I had to share it. According to Google's Keyword Tool, since 2004 Ohioans lead the nation on searches for "using a vibrator".

OK, maybe I lied about the how and why of how I came across this information. I was using Google's Keyword Tool to search for topic ideas for future blogs and websites. I've been honing in on some ideas in the construction field and through the search I got bored. So, I ran off on a tangent about "orgasms", to see what the interest level in orgasms is on Google. Not as high as you'd think. I think more people are interested in jobs - hand or blow excluded.

Since orgasms didn't reverberate as high as I thought, I tried a search for "sex toys" and "sex aids". When you use Google's Keyword Tool, it returns related search terms. Ironically, the #1 related term that the tool produced was "god". You'd think it would be "Oh, God." But that's not what Google returned. The term "god" was followed by "toys", "penis", "vagina" and "insert".

Scrolling down the list of results, I ran across "using a vibrator". There is an icon next to the term that takes you to a set of graphs and charts so you can see how search terms are trending and where they are coming from. I selected the longest data range "2004-Present" and focused on the "United States". Over the last six years, Ohio tops the list for searches of "using a vibrator".

Ohio Tops Nation for Google Searches "using a vibrator" since 2004

Ohio is followed by Pennsylvania, Michigan, Missouri and New Jersey, to round out the top 5. All the states have high unemployment and this may be how the unemployed choose to spend their time in a bleak job market.

Overall, "using a vibrator" searches were relatively flat up until 2009. This may have been due to weak batteries. Oddly, there has been a sudden rise in searches with a spike in July of 2009. Over the last year and a half, the trend has remained above the rather sideways range from 2004-2008.

Trend of Google Searches for "using a vibrator" since 2004

Could this spike in trend have something to do with the current administration? Maybe after four or five months of the Obama administration's solutions to our economic woes Americans turned to sex as an escape and took matters into their own hands. Brings new meaning to "Yes We Can."

Another coinciding trend was that there was an unusually large spike in searches for specific types of vibrators in February 2010. As an example, I've included the search trend charts below for "mini vibrator", "dolphin vibrator" and "strap on vibrator".

Search Trends from Google's Keyword Tool September 2009-August 2010

These results are on a global basis. February 2010 is the month that stands out. Maybe a lot of women were frustrated with what they got for Christmas from their lovers. Or... Everyone in the northern hemisphere was in the throes of winter and this is how to cope with too much ice and snow.

Oddly, in July and August of 2010 there was a surge in searches globally for "using a vibrator".

Google Search Trends September 2009-Auguat 2010

Perhaps it took five to six months of fiddling around with the vibrators the world bought in February to finally hit the search engines and figure out how to use the darn things.

Trying to dig a little deeper in my research, I checked for global trends in searches for batteries. That turned out to be a dead end, since battery searches has trended about the same over the term of September 2009-August 2010. However, down the list I ran across a sudden spike in searches for "iphone battery".

Google Search Trends September 2009-August 2010

What can we draw from this correlation? Maybe vibrating iPhones were holding everyone over until the batteries started to head to battery heaven. After searching the Internet for iPhone battery replacements, hopeful vibrator users scoured their night stands and search engines for ways to get the real vibrators working. Who'd have thought that vibrators were next in line behind men and iPhones?

The objective of this article was not to point a finger or a vibrator at my fellow Buckeyes. Honestly, there was no point to this article. I was just surfing through Google's Keyword Tool and starting noticing things that stuck out. Then, I started trying to connect the dots. Maybe after reviewing the data you will come to a different conclusion.

NOTE: No pornography was viewed while researching this article. This was strictly a matter of science and statistics.

In any event, if you're seeking a little sexual relief and you have to turn to a trusted device, you may want to contact your friends in Ohio when it comes to "using a vibrator" - they probably know.

Michael Grimm Wins America's Got Talent 2010 Season 5

A humble, soulful man from Mississippi, Michael Grimm, took the grand prize Wednesday on America's Got Talent. Grimm whose goal was to win so that he could give something back to his grandparents who raised him got his wish as he edged out 10 year old Jackie Evancho.

Fighting Gravity came in third and the flamboyant Prince Poppycock took fourth place.

The two-hour finals show was full of high profile talent and previous contestants - both the good and the bad.

One of the highlights of the night was for the finalists to perform a duet with one of their idols. Michael Grimm paired up with Jewel, Jackie Evancho with Sarah Brightman, Prince Poppycock pitted his vocals and pink wig opposite Donna Summer and Fighting Gravity provided a backdrop to Lionel Richie.

Other star performances included David Copperfield, Usher and a dance group from the Vegas Beatles show Love.

It's been a very enjoyable season. After thousands of auditions and hundreds of performances, America had a tough job selecting a winner from the four finalists. Grimm's talent and his heartfelt background made him a very deserving champion and he should have a stellar career ahead of him.

A few month's ago, Grimm was performing in coffee shops and lounges. Today, he's a millionaire and will be headlining an AGT touring show and a show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. And that's what makes America and America's Got Talent so great. Dreams can come true.

Who Will Win America's Got Talent Season 5 2010?

After thousands auditioned, America's Got Talent is down to the final four. Who will win?

America has to decide between the highly visual and innovative Fighting Gravity, and three very diverse vocalists. Jackie Evancho, a 10-year old opera singer from Pittsburgh wows crowds with her extremely matured voice. Michael Grimm belts out blues and soul from deep within his spirit. And Prince Poppycock never ceases to produce a spectacle with his flamboyant costumes and powerful vocal style.

This is really tough.

Fighting Gravity and Prince Poppycock are shows all by themselves, where Evancho and Grimm are strictly singers.

If you had to use the premise that what we are looking for is a "Vegas" show, the more visual acts like Fighting Gravity and Poppycock would have an edge. Highly visual acts tend to have greater appeal with international tourists, since they overcome language barriers. Although, Celine and Cher headline Vegas and Evancho's vocal skills are as refined as either of them - plus Jackie has the wow factor of being only 10 years old. That would leave Michael Grimm with the highest hill to climb.

Can Fighting Gravity by themselves headline a show? That is a critical question. Blue Man Group has some surreal visual elements, specifically the western segment, in their show, but it is a segment of the show. BMG takes you in a variety of directions. Seeing white hooded men floating over different sets for forty minutes does not sound too appealing and could get downright boring. So far we've seen four 90-second performances by FG. That's five minutes of material. Can you parlay this act into a headline length performance? Unless FG can create an intricate storyline supported with riveting music, I don't see how they can take this show to the top of the marquis.

Prince Poppycock is a one-man Broadway show. He covers a variety of musical genres and has incredible visual appeal. He would need filler acts, like a juggler or tumbler, to allow him to make costume changes and set changes. His range of music and the variety in his stage personas expand his interest level and it would be easy to see his act becoming the length of a headlining show.

Evancho and Grimm would be concerts and either could muster up plenty of arrangements to keep a crowd's attention for upwards of three quarters of an hour.

Tuesday we will see their final offerings and then America will decide.

From the beginning Fighting Gravity has been a favorite. Up until this past week, I'd have put my money on them. However, Evancho's charmed talent and Poppycock's audacious range have them right up there to take the grand prize.

As the judges say, "America always gets it right." And on Wednesday, we'll find out if America prefers poppycock, is committed to fighting gravity, likes it grim or will bank on Evancho.

I can't wait.

Leave your choices below.
